"You have to wonder at times what you're doing out there. Over the years, I've given myself a thousand reasons to keep running, but it always comes back to where it started. It comes down to self-satisfaction and a sense of achievement." -Steve Prefontaine

Channeling Singles Awareness Day into Something Awesome

Ok all of us in some way know how it is to be single on Valentine's Day. It sucks. But it doesn't have to. Also known as Singles Awareness Day, V Day can become a lot more than a day to mope around with chocolate and a chick flick.

Now you may ask how in the world this has anything to do with fitness or running and why in the world it's being posted on this blog. Well, I do have a point.

It's all about channeling. Channel the emotions into doing something good for yourself. Hit the pavement for a run and THEN break open a bottle of champagne with the girls. Eat some dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate. There's a lot more benefits in dark. Maybe make yourself a yummy crunchy salad and make sure to drink lots of water.

Singles Awareness Day does not have to be miserable. Actually, it can be a time to smile, concentrate on yourself and love yourself. Loving yourself is such a big part of the battle of bettering your fitness and physical happiness. Take this day to do something for you.

For myself, I have now scheduled runs 3x a week and placed them in the ever growing calendar. But these are ones I'm going to keep. I placed them in the afternoon however if I know I won't be able to make them, I will be getting up early and going for a run. Besides for that, I'm eating healthier, going to enjoy a nice salad, and spend the night sipping champagne and watching Magic Mike with my other single girlfriends. V Day doesn't have to be Death Day and it doesn't have to be mope and complain day either.
